6.0 FICM Repair and Testing
13th Oct 2014
FICM repair and testing runs deep in our blood at Circuit Board Medics. We have a passion for FICM repair. We own two 6.0 Powerstrokes that are used for research and development, and one of our technicians drives an F-250. We have experimented with everything from 58 volt output of the FICM to the various FICM performance programs on the market to see what works and what does not work. We have learned that the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke is an expensive engine to repair, but it can be turned into a strong, solid power plant with the right modifications. We do not think that the output voltage of the FICM needs to be modified though. Our FICM rebuild service uses upgraded components that transform a tired FICM into the injector driver that it was designed to be. A properly rebuilt FICM does not need to generate higher voltage to open and close the injectors. The coils of the injectors are rated for 48 volts, so a solid FICM built to 48 volts is the perfect match.
Each FICM that is repaired by Circuit Board Medics is tested on an actual Ford 6.0 Powerstroke truck, and it is backed by a 5 year warranty. We do not offer different "levels" of service with varying warranty periods because we stand behind every FICM that we repair for 5 full years. We also test each FICM before repair to ensure that it is indeed the cause of the problems that you are experiencing before rebuilding it.
If you are looking for performance improvement for the 6.0 Powerstroke, we have the capability of tuning your FICM for increased fuel economy or additional horsepower. Tuning the FICM is not the same as tuning the PCM. For PCM tuning, we recommend using an SCT tuner or Edge tuner to get the most out of your truck. If you have upgraded to ARP head studs, a hotter program may work for you, but we like to keep things mild (even with ARP head studs) around here. The canned tunes in the SCT X4 tuner will bring life out of the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke, and a custom tune will dial the truck in even more to your driving habits. We do not write any custom tunes for PCMs, but there are many shops that do, so do your research to determine whose tuning has been proven by a large customer base. In other words, don't just trust your neighbor's brother-in-law because he has a laptop and has attended a 3 day training course on engine tuning. PCM tunes and FICM tunes can be combined, but please understand that each tune's ratings are based on that tune being used alone. In other words, a 40HP FICM stacked on top of a 100HP PCM tune will not yield an additional 140HP.
If you have any questions about FICM repair, our technicians love to talk about anything dealing with a Super Duty. Feel free to contact us through our website anytime or call us at 800-547-2049. We look forward to serving you.
